The game of this week is Marvel Heroes 2016.
Marvel Heroes is a free-to-play online MMOARPG created by Gazillion Entertainment and official launched in June 2013.
As the name suggests, the game is based on the Marvel Comics world so if you are a fan of those comics you will love this game too. Regarding the year…I hope gazillion will change it soon.
The game is entirely free-to-play.
Content and playable characters can be unlocked within the game using any of the in-game currency.
There is anyway a system of micro-transactions to fund and support the game but nothing from the store can improve the gameplay of a user against an other.
You can purchase visual effects, boosts, stashes and characters bundles.
You can also buy single playable characters if you can't wait to reach the amount of currency needed.
Let’s now talk about the inside of the game.
Playable Characters, Classes, Etc.
The characters of this game do not have actual “classes” but they have different kind of powers.
They are mainly divided between ranged and melee and then subdivided according to their type of attack: Physical, Mental, Energy, etc.
Some character have only 1 type of attack while others have more. As you can find character which have ranged and melee attacks too.
You have practically a big choice.
At the moment, the roster of playable characters counts 59 heroes. The 60th will be soon released.
You can check the full list by clicking here.
Differently from the very beginning of this game, now all the characters are available for trial up to the first 10 levels.
Once you’ve tried them (all or some), you will have the chance to choose the starting character from the entire roster.
You will have anyway the chance to unlock further characters by collecting a currency in the game called “eternity splinters”.
If you follow the story mode, which I recommend at least for the first time you play the game, by the end of it you will have almost enough splinters to unlock a new character.
The cap is level 60 but each character can be played again from level 1 back up to level 60 for a maximum of 5 times. These are the so called prestige levels.
Each character has 2 synergies that can be unlocked when it hits level 30 and level 60. These synergies are additional powers or percentages that can be activated for other characters too improving their abilities.
So, aside the fact that each character is fun and interesting to play, it can be useful to unlock a new character and bring it to level 60.
This is a small video fo the roster of the available heroes:
Droppable items and Loot
This game has plenty of drops, starting from gears and up to costumes and characters.
Of course, the chance to drop costumes or heroes are extremly low but you never know if luck is on your side.
Aside the normal gear, you can drop artifacts, relics, insignas, runes, and more.
It would take ages to list all of them but I can ensure you that the drop in this game won't disappoint you.
What might give you trouble is where to store all those items.
There are so many that sooner or later you will need to spend some money and expand your inventory by purchasing additional stashes at 5$ or less.
Considering the price and that those money will support the game, it is worth it.
Here a picture of the inventory and the Stash:
Maps and content
The game offers plenty of places where to spend hours grinding, having fun or just to fight your archenemy.
The story mode will give you already the chance to explore vast lands but after that, you will have plenty of terminals and areas to enjoy the game.
Midtown Manhattan is for example one where you will spend lot of times for missions or just to seek a great drop.
So, daily missions, portals and events occurring very very often, will give you always something to do.
When I started this his review I didn’t really think about it all the way through. This game has so much to talk about that I would end up writing a book.
Moreover, the developers are updating and improving this game very often.
To reach the end of this post I will leave you with the Pros and Cons of this game according to my personal experience.
For any other info about the game, visit the game forum or website or simply download it and start to play and learn everything directly while playing.
Pros:
Totally free;
Huge list of playable characters each different from each other;
The game has a good content keeping you quite busy with lot of missions;
Tons of droppable items;
Well rewarding loot;
Lot of enjoyable events;
Often updates to fix bugs and solve issues.
Cons:
Initial stash too small for the amount of drops you get;
Too many items to wear which requires lot of time to check the drops or to roll for better stats;
Crafting not so used and sometimes is confusing;
The game requires lot of updates as each bring often a bug that needs to be fixed.
These are in my opinion the main positive and negative points of this game.
Personal Considerations:
I've played this game for almost 2 years, quitting it and going back to it few times. Sometimes because I was bored of it, sometimes because I got too addicted and I needed a break. Unfortunately, I'm that kind of gamer that can suddenly quit a game just because it got boring.
I recently went back to it to check the latest huge update and I thought to make a review about it.
It changed a lot since last time but it still remains a great game.
This game is cool for anyone, whether you are a Marvel fan, a MMO games fan or just an occasional player who is looking for a game to have fun with.
You can download the client of the game or you can download it on Steam and even play it on your TV using the Steam Link (check my review here).
It is possible to play using a gamepad if you prefer the controller experience.
So, at the end, I can just give this game a positive rate as I kept playing it and enjoying it for a long while.
Final Verdict:
I give Marvel Heroes 2016 8 out of 10
